The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Gotham Burger would like to recognize Ma’ayanot Varsity Soccer Captain Moreet Levine as this week’s Sportstar of the week. The 18-year-old Levine has helped guide her team to an impressive 2-0 start with victories over SAR and Hillel. Coach Moshe “Ziggy” Zharnest told the JLNJ, “Having had the privilege to coach Moreet both this year and last I can honestly say she is a true sports star! Moreet shows up on time and never misses a game, practice, or team gathering. She truly is a role model not only to the team that she serves as captain, but also to me as her coach. Her work ethic and dedication are second to none and her upbeat attitude and encouragement make the game she plays so well even more enjoyable to watch her shine! Watch out world, she’s going to do big things!”
Moreet who would you say is your role model?
My parents are my role models because of their dedication; they have come to every possible one of my games.
Who is your favorite professional athlete?
Venus Williams, because she pulled through a hard time and still came back strong.
What is your pregame meal?
A fresh whole wheat Sammy’s bagel with scallion cream cheese— gotta’ love those bagels!:)
What is your earliest sports memory?
I remember playing in the Teaneck instructional soccer league. My entire team would chase after the ball in one big clump. Not only did we all stick together like glue, but every game somehow ended in a tie. Those were the days.
What is your favorite sports memory?
When I set the ball up in a Ma’ayanot volleyball game using my foot.
What is your favorite thing to do when not playing sports?
Hanging out with my family.
What is the best thing about being a sportstar?
I love being able to exercise regularly in such a fun way.
