Star-K Supervision Leads Changes at CareOne at Teaneck

Exciting things are happening at CareOne at Teaneck, a sub-acute rehab facility located on Teaneck Road in Teaneck. CareOne at Teaneck offers its patients long-term and short-term care, specialty clinical programs and on-site MD specialists. CareOne at Teaneck offers a high level of rehabilitation in their state-of-the-art gym, which includes an Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill. CareOne at Teaneck also has an on-site Pharmacy Passport machine, which is the only one of its kind in the state of New Jersey.

There are also many new and exciting Jewish programs and activities happening at CareOne at Teaneck. This past Lag B’Omer, CareOne at Teaneck hosted an event that included a fire pit and music. Approximately 85 family members and Jewish patients showed up. On Purim, CareOne at Teaneck had Megillah reading for local community members and patients. After the reading, dozens of community members, high school students and college students dressed in costumes came to visit the patients and sing and dance with them. For Chanukah, CareOne at Teaneck purchased a six-foot electric Chanukiah, which they put right outside of their facility facing Teaneck Road.

Simeon Ratner, a director at CareOne at Teaneck, told the Jewish Link, “As of the first of January, we are proud to report that CareOne at Teaneck is now under Star-K kosher supervision. We are also now completely Cholov Yisroel and Pas Yisroel. In February, Rabbi Mordechai Feuerstein became our new facility chaplain. These developments were done to enhance the experience of our Jewish residents. Not only that, we hope that Jewish families in the entire tri-state area who are looking for a long-term or short-term rehab facility for a loved one will consider CareOne at Teaneck.”

Jean Monnecka, the administrator of CareOne at Teaneck, added, “As a kosher facility geared toward serving the needs of the Jewish community, CareOne at Teaneck strives to accommodate the religious needs of all of our Jewish residents. We are very excited about all of these changes and we are proud to serve the Jewish community in their time of need.”

Rabbi Mordechai Feuerstein, most recently of Livingston, New Jersey, became the new facility chaplain of CareOne at Teaneck this past February, after having served as a congregational Rabbi for 30 years offering pastoral care, guidance and support. He is at CareOne at Teaneck during the week and often davens in the CareOne shul on Shabbos and Yom Tov. “I feel very fortunate to be able to facilitate and service the spiritual needs of CareOne’s residents as they convalesce and emerge strengthened through the care and therapies they receive here,” said Rabbi Feuerstein. Ratner observed, “Rabbi Feuerstein really cares about the patients. The rabbi is always checking in with them to see how they’re doing and if they need anything.”

Starting this past October, CareOne at Teaneck has a rotation of Yeshiva University semicha students who serve as the rabbinic interns on Shabbos at CareOne. Ratner says, “It’s a great way for them to get rabbinic experience and to give back to the community. The patients really enjoy having the semicha students around.” The semicha students head the Shabbos minyanim, which are held every Shabbos in the shul at CareOne at Teaneck. Ratner says, “There are regularly a number of male patients in CareOne who would like to be able to daven with a minyan. Sometimes we have a hard time getting a minyan. Community members are always welcome to join our weekly Shabbos and Yom Tov minyanim.”

The facility recently underwent renovations and refurbishments. CareOne at Teaneck is also proud to report that at their most recent state survey (which happened to be on Pesach), they were found to have zero deficiencies across all departments of the facility.

If the CareOne at Teaneck logo looks familiar, that’s because this year CareOne at Teaneck has sponsored 20,000 Chesed 24/7 meal bags. Aside from other services that Chesed 24/7 provides, it delivers hot, nutritious meals to hospitalized patients and their families in the New York-New Jersey area.
