Star teacher and Bruriah alumna, Shuli Fuchs will be returning to Bruriah next year as a teacher and grade advisor after working in the Monsey area this past year. Since graduating Bruriah, Fuchs has been channeling her passion for Torah by inspiring and uplifting teens and young women in high school and through adult education. Committed to fostering a life of Torah learning and growth, Fuchs balances her time in the classroom with her work at Veha’er, a non-profit organization she founded to foster growth and continued Torah connection for women at various stages of life. Fuchs and her team of acclaimed speakers have delivered dozens of shiurim to hundreds of women since the organization’s founding.
Also joining the Bruriah team next year are two outstanding mental health professionals hired to enhance Bruriah’s guidance department, with the goal of offering students more full-time coverage, support and services. Having worked with teens in a variety of capacities, Shira Somerstein and Yael Bernstein are excited to bring their talents and experience to Bruriah. Somerstein, LSW, is a graduate of the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, where she earned a master’s in social work, will serve as Bruriah’s coordinator of guidance. Somerstein has worked as a therapist and crisis counselor in a variety of settings, using strength-based approaches to ensure that individual’s feel valued, heard, and empowered. She is a sought after presenter in schools on a broad range of social-emotional and safety-related topics, and also has classroom and educational experience.
Bernstein, MSW, will also join the Bruriah guidance team to provide support to students in need of emotional and behavioral guidance. Bernstein is a graduate of the Wurzweiler School of Social Work and has worked with NCSY, providing mental health services to teens, as well as in a variety of different schools as an educator and guidance counselor.
These outstanding professionals join Bruriah’s existing stellar academic team and other new additions including Bruriah’s new principal, Esther Eisenman, new assistant principal Dr. Bethany Strulowitz, new Torah Shel Baal Peh rebbe, Rabbi Steve Miodownik and others that will continue building on Bruriah’s legacy while fostering a student-centered growth-oriented environment that empowers every student to achieve their personal best.
