TCA students kicked off the second semester by using Little Bits STEAM kits. Last semester, the children completed units on digital citizenship, coding with Scratch and lessons in applications in Google Workplace, including Drawings, Sheets, Docs and Slides. This term, the unit on Little Bits will expose the students to circuits, inputs, outputs and power sources. The children will develop a prototype with the idea of designing “for good.” Using the Little Bits and in collaboration with the art teacher, students will learn design, engineering and physical computing skills: decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction and algorithm design. The kits, which are magnetic and color coded, are a prerequisite for more advanced work with Arduino and Raspberry Pi computers. The students were so excited to get their hands on the bits and pieces, and the pictures speak for themselves!
