The 4 year-old kindergarten class at Stein Yeshiva, dove deep into the wonders of the letter “R.” What begins with “R”? Rainbows of course. Using a crystal prism, the kinderlach discovered the magic of primary, secondary and complimentary colors dancing around their classroom, reflecting off the snow and filling their space with wonder. Inspired by their observations, the children created their own Roaming Rainbow. Using watercolors strategically placed in cups, they carefully introduced folded paper towels, creating a reaction as the colors blended. The science behind it amazed them all.
The class observed noticeable transparency when they mixed food coloring and water. However, when they introduced a droplet of milk, the fat content transformed it into an opaque marvel. As the kinderlach mixed primary colors, they achieved secondary, tertiary and complementary colors. Having explored the colors of the rainbow in so many ways, each of the children painted their color wheel, counting up or down from the original primary color, yellow. The results were magnificent rainbow masterpieces. Students also remembered that in Parshas Noach they learned that there’s a special bracha to say when seeing Hashem’s keshet, rainbow in the sky.
