V is for Vegetables. Stein Yeshiva’s kindergarteners certainly know how to put a new twist on learning the alphabet. The children have been watching their very own root vegetables grow, but this week they examined a whole array of veggies, noticing the differences between root vegetables, which grow underground, and leafy vegetables that grow above ground. Beets, radishes, turmeric and various turnips can be eaten, but what else can they be used for? Paints, of course. The children transformed the vegetables into paints using a vegetable grinder and baking soda. This ancient painting method is still used today. The yeladim used these paints to craft a still life painting featuring beets, spring onions and carrots—and worked on their fine motor skills along the way. It was a fascinating and fun exploration of Hashem’s creations.
