If you have ever married off a child, you know the scene. It’s the day of the wedding and inevitably some crisis is going to occur. A missing cuff link or a missing wedding ring is to be expected. In our case, the chassan decided that his wedding shirt needed additional ironing. Sounded like a harmless activity until the iron scorched the shirt. Oy vey!
Okay, the chassan had a backup shirt, however it was worn at the aufruf and is in the laundry. The time is 10:30 a.m. and we have to leave for the wedding at 1 p.m. We are from Israel and therefore not regular patrons of the local cleaners, but we thought we could give it a try. So we came to Sterling on Teaneck Road and asked how soon a shirt could be cleaned and pressed (it was 11 a.m.). The gentleman behind the counter said that he could have it done by 3 p.m.–extremely reasonable, but not good enough. The situation was explained, and then he said, “It will be ready by 1 p.m.”
Not only was the shirt ready, but Sterling Cleaners did not charge–a much appreciated wedding present!
