Stern College Dramatics Society Produces ‘The Mousetrap’

Every fall, the Stern College Dramatics Society (SCDS) produces a play to be viewed by Yeshiva University as well as the greater public. As Stern College’s student performing arts organization, SCDS has been offering young Jewish women the opportunity to partake in all manifestations of the performing arts within an Orthodox environment since the 1950s. With a range of creative outlets including everything from acting to producing to costume design, SCDS enables students to pursue their dreams both on and off the stage.

This year, the Stern College Dramatics Society has been hard at work bringing to life one of Agatha Christie’s greatest masterpieces: “The Mousetrap.” A mystery thriller and comedy,” The Mousetrap” is the world’s longest-running play, having opened in 1952 and been seen by tens of millions of people since then.

The play opens with the two owners of the newly founded Monkswell Manor Inn welcoming their five quirky houseguests amidst a brutal blizzard, which quickly leaves them all snowed in. A policeman arrives on skis, and it’s only a matter of time before a murder investigation is thrown into the mix. “The Mousetrap” is both an astounding mystery-thriller and laugh-out-loud hysterical, and is sure to leave viewers on the edge of their seats wondering, “Whodunnit?”

Spearheading Stern’s production of the play is none other than sensational writer, director and actor Leah Gottfried. The creator of the comedic web series “Soon by You” and founder of production company Dignity Entertainment, Leah is also a Stern College and SCDS alumnus. As director for the showing of “The Mousetrap,” Leah has been bringing new life to this classic show with her acting and directing expertise.

The show will run December 11 at 3 p.m., and December 12, 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Wilf Campus Schottenstein Theater, 560 West 185th Street New York, NY 10033. Admission is open to all audiences, and ticket prices start as low as $5 for students. Ticket revenue goes directly to supporting the Stern College Dramatics Society and its productions, events and programs. Support is greatly appreciated as it allows Orthodox Jewish undergraduate women to do what they love without compromising on their religious values or artistic professionalism.
