The Board of the Jewish Community Council of Greater Teaneck has appointed Steve Fox as its new president, effective immediately, according to president emeritus, Bruce Prince.
Fox has spent the last 35 years as a community activist. He is the co-chair of the Northern New Jersey Holocaust Memorial & Education Center Committee and before that served as co- chair of the Teaneck Holocaust Commemoration Committee. He also served as a board member at P’TACH (Parents for Torah for all Children), where he founded and chaired their Young Leadership committee for 11 years.
His goals as he takes on the role of president of the community council include uniting the local synagogues to work together on projects of mutual interest, such as Israel advocacy, combating antisemitism, Holocaust education and programming, and community relations. To that end, he wants to have representatives of each synagogue join the council in order to work together on these programs.
Another goal is to form a committee of educators from the local public and private schools to work on joint artistic and educational Holocaust projects and present them to the entire community. Fox also hopes to revive the efforts to create a Holocaust memorial and education center on the Teaneck Municipal Green, a project that he feels is more important than ever in light of the current rise in antisemitism. As president, he will also be involved in working with other segments of the Teaneck community to foster goodwill and cooperation between the groups.
According to Fox, “The Jewish Community Council has primarily been involved with the annual Holocaust commemoration and the efforts to build a memorial, and now it is time to expand our efforts to unify the entire community and the schools to work together on projects of cultural and communal interest. I look forward to making the council a vibrant and effective force in the community.”
Steve Fox holds a bachelor’s in both Judaic Studies and TV/Radio and an master’s in TV Radio. He is a member of congregations Beth Abraham and Keter Torah and lives in Teaneck with his wife Chary. He can be reached at [email protected].
