The community is invited to a free screening of the highly acclaimed film, “Still Life in Lodz,” which will be shown on January 6 at Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy/Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School (JKHA/RKYHS) in Livingston, beginning at 7 p.m.

In this new documentary by Emmy-winning Director Slawomir Grunberg, Paul Celler, who was born and lived most of his life in New Jersey, embarked on a journey to find traces of his mother’s life in the Lodz Ghetto. Together with Lodz-born Lilka Elbaum, and Israeli-born Roni Ben Ari, they uncovered traces of memories that bind all of them to the city of Lodz.

Viewed through the lens of a family painting, the film’s canvas is the history of Lodz’s once vibrant Jewish community, its near-destruction during the Shoah, its post-war revival, the 1968 anti-semitism-driven expulsions and its present-day life.

The film is an unforgettable journey into the past—and a history lesson for the future.
