On Thursday night, January 31, over 250 students stayed late for SAR High School’s annual Sting Night. This year, the event featured a boys varsity basketball game against Heschel High School. The festivities began with a sports-themed mishmar, followed by a pep rally in the lobby, where music blasted while students ate dinner, painted their faces, sprayed their hair and made signs. Cotton candy and popcorn were served to all students and fans in attendance. By the end of the pep rally, each student had their face painted in yellow and black!
The student athletes from Heschel were danced into SAR, to the song “Welcome to our House.” After some pre-game warm-ups, the lights were turned off and the SAR players were introduced with an amazing pump-up video. Then, it was game time!
SAR took an early lead, but Heschel quickly caught up. The score was tied for most of the game but in the end, Heschel emerged victorious. In between quarters, T-shirts were launched by student government. During halftime, one student from each grade competed in a layup and tic-tac-toe competition. Congratulations to Millie Helft and Orli Stulbach, who each won an ice cream party for their grade!
The ruach that permeated throughout the gym was unparalleled. A special yasher koach to the student government for the planning and preparation of the event— without them, Sting Night would not have been the same! To sum up the experience, “The Hive was buzzing!”
