On July 13, the Young Israel of Teaneck will be having its annual summer blood drive. From 3 to 9 p.m., feel free to show up or sign up with this link: tinyurl.com/youngisraelblooddrive. The blood drive will be run by college student Sara Schatz in memory of her grandmother, Mary Schatz. Three summers ago, Sara was in touch with the American Red Cross about potentially running a blood drive at her shul as part of their Leaders Save Lives college scholarship program; around that time, her grandmother, Mary Schatz, passed away. At the shiva, she was reminded that chesed was a huge part of her grandmother’s life—and in particular, her grandmother had run many blood drives. Since then, every summer, around the time of Mary Schatz’ yahrzeit (22 Tamuz), Sara has been running a blood drive in her memory. Sara commented: “Because she was such a modest human being, and because our family isn’t that large (I’m the only granddaughter), it’s personally been a really fulfilling and enjoyable way to keep both her legacy and exponentially impactful message of giving, alive.” If you have any questions or are looking to get involved in another way, you can contact Sara Schatz at [email protected] or
