(Courtesy of Age Friendly Teaneck) As a way to educate and encourage students to consider elder care as a career path, Age Friendly Teaneck (www.agefriendlyteaneck.org) will initiate a four-week Career Exploration Internship for two outstanding and motivated high school juniors or seniors, who are Teaneck residents, in Summer 2018, starting July 9. Deadline to apply for these positions is April 10.

Each student will receive a $500 stipend.

“How to better provide social, recreational and health supports for elders—many of whom are isolated and underserved—is a key issue that we focus on at the local level,” said Elizabeth Davis, Age Friendly Teaneck’s project director. “It is clear that our society will need a larger and a more well-trained elder-care workforce to provide services for our aging population.”

The internship will combine a dynamic curriculum, real-world experience and one-on-one connections with professionals in the fields of geriatric-related social work, geriatric wellness, technology, home care, recreation, food service, housing, elder law and business management. Interns will be supervised by a team of seasoned and knowledgeable professionals from Geriatric Services, Inc., Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Northern NJ and Homewatch CareGivers of Bergen County.
