(Courtesy of Breslov Research Institute) On Sunday, January 5, world-renowned singer and musician Yosef Karduner will make his first appearance in Teaneck at the Teaneck Sephard Center (407 Warwick Avenue, near the corner of Sussex, Teaneck).
At age 24, after serving in the Israeli Army, Karduner was introduced to the teachings of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, which fascinated him and infused him with a desire to learn more about Breslover chasidut. These teachings quickly developed into the main source of inspiration for his musical compositions. Comprising biblical texts, psalms and Rebbe Nachman’s teachings, Karduner’s songs blend together to create a plethora of music filled with hope, faith and joy.
The famous and stirring “Shir La’Ma’alot” and many of Karduner’s songs are known far and wide and are commonly performed by distinguished artists universally.
Karduner is also well known for being extraordinarily sincere. Because of this, although he has to date released 11 albums and his music is readily available on Spotify, he loathes public relations and advertising. This makes his debut performance in Teaneck a very special and unique opportunity not to be missed.
Karduner has agreed to perform in honor of the publishing of the English edition of “Likutey Halachot.” “Likutey Halachot” is arguably the most important work in Breslov chasidut. It expounds on the deeper meaning behind Halacha/Jewish law and demonstrates how concepts found in Halacha are relevant to today’s psycho-spiritual challenges. Compiled by Reb Noson of Breslov, the main disciple of Rebbe Nachman, this work has been translated with commentary for the very first time by the Breslov Research Institute.
For over 40 years, the Breslov Research Institute has been the main publisher of Rebbe Nachman’s works. They have released over 100 titles to date, and have also published tens of books in Spanish, French, Ivrit and Russian. Their original translator was the famed Rabbi Aryeh Kaplan.
Founder and Breslov scholar Rabbi Chaim Kramer of Jerusalem will also address the audience and share insights from the treasure trove of Breslov thought on the topic of “How to Be Happy!” He will also be available to answer any questions related to Judaism, chasidut or Rebbe Nachman.
