Participants at the TABC dinner have extra cause for celebration this year: A successful expansion project that has doubled the size of the Teaneck facility and enhanced the daily experience for the school’s 270 students. The 31st Annual Dinner will be held on March 30 at Congregation Keter Torah. The dinner honors Wendy and Isaac Shulman, Alisa and Stephen Levy, and Faculty Honoree Dr. Garry Katz. Yaacov Apfelbaum is the Alumni Honoree.
TABC has come a long way from the cramped building that opened its doors 20 years ago on Queen Anne Road with only 65 students. “Our beautiful new and expanded facility has brought a new spirit and energy to our Yeshiva,” said Board President Nachum Barishansky about the nearly $8 million construction project. “Our new Beit Knesset, the modernized and enlarged beit midrash, new high-tech classrooms and additional fully equipped gym, have all added a richness to the student experience that goes far beyond the additional square footage.”
Isaac Shulman has served on the TABC Board of Directors for 18 years and was instrumental in this latest building project, as well as an earlier one several years ago. The Shulmans have also been active in the broader Teaneck community, as founding members of Congregation Rinat Yisrael and Zichron Mordechai, where Isaac ran the building project for its new building. Three of their children are TABC graduates.
As Chair of the Interior Design Committee, Alisa Levy has applied her good taste and remarkable attention to detail to every inch of the new TABC building. In addition, Alisa serves on TABC’s Board of Directors. She helped launch and manage the Teen Learning Program, and chaired the Recruitment Committee. Alisa also sits on the Executive Board of the Teaneck Mikvah Association and co-chairs its Annual Women’s Event.
Dr. Garry Katz is a beloved TABC staff member who is completing his 40th year in the field of education. For the last 12 years he has served with distinction as a highly respected history teacher and as the Director of College Guidance at TABC. As TABC’s Guidance Counselor, he has introduced many new initiatives and programs.
Yaacov Apfelbaum is a devoted TABC alumnus who continues to give back to his school more than a decade after his own high school graduation. After finishing TABC in 2001, he studied at Reishit Yerushalayim and completed his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Yeshiva University. Throughout his years at YU and until today, Yaacov has served in coaching capacities for both TABC JV and Varsity Hockey teams. He is currently the assistant coach for the varsity team. Yaakov lives in Bergenfield with his wife, Aliza, and their two children.
The Annual Dinner brings together parents, alumni, faculty, and guests in an evening of unprecedented support for TABC. The event raises funds towards student financial aid, student programming and the day to day operations of the school.
