TABC Captures First Baseball Championship

The TABC Storm baseball team defeated the Ramaz Rams in the championship game on Monday night at Overpeck Park. TABC had blown out Ramaz in the regular season and the Rams came to Leonia seeking revenge. The Rams kept the Storm at bay in a scoreless game until the sixth inning when the action started to unfold. While star pitcher, senior Yechiel Keiser had been pitching a perfect game until then, Ramaz managed to get runners on second and third with one out and the first run of the game within reach. The Ramaz batter attempted a bunt to bring the runner home, but to no avail. Catcher, senior Sammy Greenberg anticipated the bunt, made the spectacular catch and threw the runner out at third for the double play and it was all Storm from there on out. Greenberg came up big again, this time with his bat, scoring a two run RBI double. Seniors Akiva Hain, Josh Goldman and Ben Antosofsky hit home insurance runs, and the Storm went on to win 5-1 with Greenberg earning MVP honors.

What a season for TABC baseball and departing coach Norm Blumenthal, capturing both the Columbus Baseball Invitational and the league title for the elusive double. During the post-game awards, Blumenthal reminded his players that “From day one, our first practice, we said this was our year…You should be proud of yourselves. This was a tough game.” Assistant Coach Steven Malech summed it all up after the game. “This is just a great group of boys,” he said, referring to both the seniors and the roster at large. “I’ll miss them.”

Full season recap to follow next week.

Congratulations to all! See you next spring!
