TABC Captures Third Place in 2014 Sarachek

The TABC Storm was one of 20 teams from around the country invited to the Annual Red Sarachek Basketball Tournament held by Yeshiva University. The #5 seed entering, the Storm looked to make a run for the championship game. TABC had a terrific championship series, losing by a mere point to the eventual yeshiva league champions, North Shore Hebrew Academy.

On Thursday night, the first night of the tournament, TABC faced Scheck Hillel of Miami. After a very close first half, TABC pulled away, defeating the #12 seed to advance to the Tier 1 quarterfinals behind Yehoshua Zirma’s 27 points.

On Friday, the Storm faced Yavneh of Dallas, the #4 seed in the tournament. TABC pulled ahead early and closed out the victory 65-54 behind Dan Poleyeff’s 17 points. The Storm then headed to the Shabbaton with a lot of momentum and ready to face the #1 seed, YULA.

Sunday’s much anticipated game saw the Storm jumped out to a quick lead against the talented and stacked YULA lineup. The Panthers fought back, and with two minutes left in the game led by only 4. The Storm played a tough game against the best Jewish team in the country, but unfortunately could not prevail.

The last day, Monday, saw an early game between TABC and HAFTR for 3rd place in Tier 1 of the tournament. Both teams mostly played their seniors, with the Storm winng 44-38, thus capturing 3rd place in the tournament.

The tournament was a great experience and a lot of fun for the entire team and was an excellent way to cap off the seniors’ TABC basketball career.
