TABC did not let November 29 pass without bringing students’ attention to the 70th anniversary of the momentous decision of the United Nations adoption of the Partition Plan, which led to the establishment of the State of Israel in Eretz Yisrael. Rabbi Jachter addressed the freshmen and sophomores during Shacharit and most of the juniors and seniors later in the afternoon, enlightening our students on how to detect Hashem’s involvement in this awesome event.

Rabbi Jachter used Megillat Esther as a model of a miracle which does not include a violation of the laws of nature. When repeated actions occur against all odds, the reasonable conclusion is that Hashem’s subtle hand is manipulating events in our favor. Rabbi Jachter described how Soviet, American, French and Latin American support for the resolution (as well as many of the abstentions) were against all odds yet it was not reasonable to say it was coincidence. TABC is proud to have echoed Rav Soloveitchik’s assertion that “kol dodi dofeik,” the voice of our Beloved was knocking when the UN voted on November 29, 1947 for what eventually led to a Jewish state.
