TABC takes athletics very seriously, but safety always comes first. Consistent with this belief the school ran mandatory baseline concussion tests for student athletes. On Wednesday night, October 23, immediately following Maariv, Dr. Danit Macklin PT, DPT, director of the Balance and Concussion Therapy Center, ran an ImPACT test for TABC student athletes. Baseline testing using the ImPACT neurocognitive test allows players to have an individualized snapshot of many areas of brain function that can be affected in the event of a head injury. This provides medical professionals who work with athletes after an injury to have a much better measurement of recovery and when the player is really ready to return to his sport safely. Dr. Macklin remarked “Most high schools across the country are providing baseline testing for their athletes, however, TABC is among the first of the local yeshivot to do so. Your school has demonstrated incredible initiative and concern for their students by starting a concussion management program and baseline testing for the students.”
Coaches were present at the time of the test to ensure that their teams were taking the test seriously and professionally.
Yitz Rabovsky, athletic director at TABC said, “At TABC our coaches demand 100% effort from their players on every play, and as a result we need to make sure that their safety is always the first priority. I am proud that we, as a school, are leading the way in ensuring proper head safety for our student-athletes.”
