As part of their unit on hair and fiber, seniors in Ariella Rosenbaum’s forensics elective enjoyed an interdisciplinary, hands-on lesson about shatnez with Rabbi Chanan Strassman ‘05, TABC’s director of Guidance. Rabbi Strassman discussed the halachic laws regarding shatnez, the prohibition of wearing a garment with a blend of linen and wool. Rabbi Strassman shared examples he has seen when searching garments as a shatnez tester and the seniors practiced identifying different fibers and hairs using microscope techniques.
