TABC Heads to the Big Easy to Do Big Chesed

Twelve TABC juniors and seniors, along with Rabbis Ezra Stone and Jonathan Kessel, headed down to the Big Easy on Sunday for a four-day chesed mission in NOLA. The boys left from Newark Airport for the two and a half hour flight with a focused mincha before they embarked on the journey ahead. After they landed, they headed out to Walmart and enjoyed a hearty dinner. Monday davening at Chabad was completed with Rav Mendy Shechter discussing the damage Hurricane Katrina did to the area and how the community is rebuilding. The day saw the group volunteering at Greenlight helping the community become more energy efficient and preparing rain barrels for use in the ninth district. The boys then ate dinner and celebrated Rabbi Stone’s birthday with a cake. The evening ended with a dvar Torah and Maariv. On Tuesday, the boys got dirty by digging trenches and creating wood forms for a concrete pour for low incoming housing and even created wood frame walls for a house. After an exhausting day of work the group headed to the Pelicans game to watch rookie sensation Zion Williamson. On Wednesday, the boys enjoyed famous New Orleans beignets and ended the trip with a trip to the National World War II Museum. The trip was incredibly inspiring and meaningful for each participant.
