TABC Hockey Sweeps Motzei Shabbat Double Headers

The grand opening of the newly repaired hockey gym was ushered in with much fanfare last Saturday night as students, parents, and faculty enjoyed an exciting doubleheader with popcorn and cotton candy for all. The anticipation had been building for weeks and the atmosphere did not disappoint. The JV team tormed past the Frisch Cougars 9-3, while the varsity team lost a tough one 4-2.

After another victory for the JV, giving them a perfect 7-0 to the season, the varsity squad was determined to come back from their first loss of the season to the Frisch Cougars, one week earlier. TABC came out strong in the first period and midway through, Ryan Brandwein scored on a power play goal, assisted by AJ Seplowitz. Just two minutes later, Joey Zelig skillfully placed the ball through the five hole of SAR goaltender, and the first period ended with TABC on top 2-0. During the second period both teams came out fighting, but goalie Chaim Mermelstein continued blanking SAR’s efforts and drives towards the net, and held on to a shutout through two periods. SAR then fought back hard in the third period and broke the shutout, making it a one goal game. TABC didn’t back down and continued their aggressive play, and just two minutes later, Seplowitz sniped a power play goal to put TABC ahead 3-1. Lastly, Zelig added an empty net goal at the end of the game, as the Storm came out on top in a 4-1 victory, bringing their record to 7-1.

Both teams head into winter break well-positioned for a top playoff seed in both the JV and varsity divisions.
