TABC Hosts Semmelman Memorial Hockey Tournament to Benefit iShine

On Sunday, April 2, TABC will host the Fourth Annual Esther Semmelman Memorial All Star Hockey Games. The games are named in memory of Esther Semmelman, a devoted wife and the mother of Alyssa and David, who passed away on August 11, 2012, after a 10-year battle with cancer. Proceeds from the event will benefit iShine, a unique after-school program for children living with illness or loss in their homes. The program creates an environment filled with laughter and friendship where children who are dealing with such challenges have the opportunity to truly shine.

Esther Semmelman was a fixture at all of David’s hockey games, starting with TABC junior hockey through TABC junior varsity. She was always there to support him and pushed him to work his hardest. Esther encouraged her son and his teammates to play like bnei Torah. To play hard and do their best, but conduct themselves with proper middot.

All three games will feature the top hockey players in their respective leagues. The middle school game begins at 10:30 AM and features a competition between the New York (MYJHHL) and the New Jersey (HAYMISH) leagues. The junior varsity game is scheduled for 1:00 PM, followed by the varsity game at 3:30 PM. The high school games are a competition of east (Brooklyn and Long Island) vs. west (New Jersey and New York City).

A highlight of the games is the popular skills competitions between periods for hardest shot and last man standing.

General admission to the games is $5. All donations over $100 include admission for immediate family. In addition, there are various hockey named sponsorship opportunities. For more information, please contact [email protected]. To make an online donation to iShine, go to tabc.org/allstarhockey. Checks made out to iShine may be mailed to TABC, 1600 Queen Anne Road, Teaneck, New Jersey 07666.
