TABC Is Victorious in Torah Bowl Competition

Last week the Torah Bowl Western Division met at JEC to choose a regional champion team, one that would move on to play in the championships. The questions focused on parshiyot Pinchas, Matot and Masei, and their accompanying Rashis. TABC was the third seed in the four-team division, but stormed out of the gate by defeating the Kushner team with a final score of 23-3. The next round presented a formidable opponent in JEC, but TABC pulled out the win-or-go-home victory by a close score of 16-12. This resulted in the classic TABC-Frisch rivalry in a best-of-three series for the crown of the division and, more importantly, the coveted opportunity to compete in the championships. TABC got off to a fast start in the first game, taking a 10-6 halftime lead but, after very competitive playing by both sides, was tied 13-13 with Frisch with just two questions remaining in the round. Feeling the pressure of the need to take the first game, TABC got the clutch bonus question and took the last four points of the round, resulting in a 17-13 victory. In the second game, TABC did not play around, taking an incredible 13-2 halftime lead and a final score of 20-5, clinching the division crown for the Storm. With several missing members, the team nonetheless dominated the competition, led by the stellar play of captains Avi Cooper ‘17 and Moshe Davis ‘17, and invaluable contributions by Shmuel Adler ‘18, Avrumi Davis ‘19 and Akiva Sturm ‘19. The team now looks forward to the championships after Pesach which will test on chumash and Rashi on all of sefer Bamidbar.
