The TABC JV hockey team hosted the MTA Lions on Wednesday night, December 11, hoping to snap their three-game winless streak. The Storm knew something had to change to pull off the victory and they came running out of the gate, maintaining possession in MTA’s zone for nearly the entire game. The team had no problem crashing the net and putting shots on goal this time, opening the scoring less than two minutes into the game. They were up by four goals and in cruise control after just one period. The final score was 9-0 in favor of TABC. Sophomores Aaron Brothman and Jake Rubenstein led the charge with two goals apiece and Max Mauskopf ’28 and Ian Mandelbaum ’27 combined for the shutout in net.
Five days later, the team traveled to Brooklyn for a late game against the YDE Thunder. The Storm knew they needed a stellar showing to stay alive in the playoff race. The two teams had played it close last year when YDE traveled to Teaneck, winning the game in OT. On Monday however, the Storm were given the first break of the game with a powerplay opportunity and sophomore Marty Teitelbaum made YDE pay for it with the first goal of the game. TABC continued to put shots on net and led 3-1 after the first period with Teitelbaum adding a second, and sophomore Dovid Ratzersdorfer netting one. The second period saw some of the same attacking intensity from the Storm, as they punched in three more goals via freshmen Noah Schwebel and Ari Schulhof, and sophomore Aaron Brothman on the power play. While YDE scored three unanswered goals to cut the deficit to 6-4, it was too little too late and the Storm held on for the crucial victory.
The Storm now have two pivotal upcoming road games at Frisch and SAR as they continue their fight to squeak into the playoffs.
