(TABC sports) The TABC JV boys basketball team traveled north of the border to compete in the Oren Grunbaum Tournament in Montreal last week. Their first matchup pitted them against the host (and eventual champion) Hebrew Academy of Montreal Heat. The Storm were smacked around from start to finish and found themselves one game away from elimination when the final buzzer sounded. Next up were the Barkai Suns. TABC were now the ones dominating, and all 20 players were able to contribute to the win, most notably Jack Nordlicht ’26 and Shammai Kirschenbaum ’27. The Storm then faced Flatbush where the winner would move on to semi-final Saturday. After leading comfortably for the entirety of the game, Flatbush mounted a furious comeback. Thankfully, Yonatan Faber’s lights-out shooting was able to close out the game and the Storm headed into Shabbat among the last four teams still in contention.
Unfortunately, the run ended on Saturday night, as the team lost to a Yeshiva League rival, the Hillel Heat, in the semifinals. During the awards ceremony on Sunday, sophomore Akiva Borgen was named a tournament All-Star. The team had a great experience and learned many lessons they will take with them as they shift their focus toward the playoffs.
