TABC Marks End of Year With Trips and Closing Ceremonies

In the days leading up to the last day of classes, each grade at TABC enjoyed a special trip off campus. The freshman class had a blast at Six Flags on Tuesday, arriving at the park on coach buses and decked out in Class of 2024 T-shirts. The beautiful weather and short lines made for a great day. The sophomores celebrated the end of the year by taking over Camp Kaylie for a day of recreation and relaxation. With full use of the campgrounds, the students were able to partake in activities from softball and sand volleyball to tennis and go-karts. The highlight of the day was a huge grade-wide game of lineup with awesome prizes. The students capped off the day with a BBQ dinner, arriving back at TABC exhausted but ready for their final two days as underclassmen. Finally, the soon-to-be-seniors enjoyed a picture-perfect spring day whitewater rafting along Pennsylvania’s Lehigh River. When they got out of the river, they were met with a delicious meal and a fire to dry off and warm up. After Mincha, the students headed to Dave & Buster’s for games and loads of indoor fun (we’d be remiss not to mention the unlimited soft drinks). The Class of 2022 rolled back into Teaneck around 9:30 p.m. after a memorable day.

On the official last day of classes on Friday, June 4, each grade enjoyed a special closing ceremony. Head of School Rabbi Shlomo Adelman addressed each grade, sharing the story of Charlie Plumb, a U.S. Navy jet pilot who was ejected from his fighter jet and ultimately captured as a POW in Vietnam. He is now a public speaker whose famous question of “Who packed your parachute?” encourages others to recognize the potentially unnoticed heroes in their everyday lives, like the man who packed his parachute that ultimately saved his life. Rabbi Adelman recognized their departing principals, Arthur Poleyeff (Mr. P.) and Rabbi Ezra Wiener; Nurse Robin Insler; Steve Tichenor, Freddy Chevez, Eddie Leone and Willie Chevez of the facilities team; and their many teachers and rebbeim who guided them through the rollercoaster of the past year and “packed their parachutes.” Then, the grade mechanech shared words of chizuk before the students watched a slideshow of the year in pictures. At the end, everyone was invited outside where an ice cream truck was parked. Students enjoyed frozen treats before heading back for the last of their classes.
