On Wednesday, December 25, TABC held a parent-son yom iyun focused on inyanei Chanukah. The program was generously dedicated by Miriam and Yossi Bak in memory of their son, and TABC alumni parent, Sander Bak a”h. After Shacharis and brief remarks from both Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Joshua Kahn, as well as from Shmuel Bak ‘18 about his father, parents and students enjoyed a gala breakfast, followed by two rounds of concurrent break-out sessions run by TABC rebbeim. A keynote address by Rabbi Shay Schachter, the mara d’asra and rosh beis medrash at the Young Israel of Woodmere and the rabbi and spiritual leader of Yachad, capped off the morning. The building was buzzing with the harmonious sounds of nearly 500 parents, sons, and their teachers learning together and delving into the messages of Chanukah. It was an especially meaningful morning since, as Rabbi Kahn pointed out, Chanukah shares the shame shoresh as chinuch; lighting a candle, which involves giving over light to another candle and kindling the spark in someone else is the essence of chinuch and ensures an eternal Jewish legacy.
