Before Pesach, freshman and sophomore Scholars Program participants enjoyed a full day of learning and fun on a trip that combined math, nature and art. The day began at the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath), where they explored the math behind puzzles and games, navigated large mazes and experimented with fractals and pixelation. Next, they headed to Central Park for lunch, where they also had a chance to practice some of the skills they learned on last year’s Scholars’ trip to Spyscape as they spied on each other across the park’s giant lake. The final stop was the Jewish Museum, where students received a guided tour of Esther in the Age of Rembrandt. They viewed original Rembrandt paintings and other fascinating artifacts from the time of Rembrandt in the Netherlands, all connected to the Megillah story. The students had a particularly good time comparing the versions of the Esther story presented in the paintings with their own understandings of the Megillah. Looking ahead, the sophomore scholars are currently hard at work preparing to present their independent research projects at the TABC Evening of Scholarship. Thank you to Rabbi Shaya First and Ms. Cary Riker for organizing and chaperoning this exciting day.
