Representatives from the Organization for Resolution of Agunot (ORA) met with TABC 12th graders last week as part of the senior seminar series. The presentation focused heavily on raising awareness and sensitivity to the plight of agunot, and the critical role in which community awareness can help resolve these heartbreaking situations. Moreover, the presentation included a treatment of the halachic background concerning the highly sensitive nature of using public pressure to help resolve outstanding cases of agunot, along with an explanation of the relevant aspects of the beit din system, including hazmanot, hatra’ot and seiruvin. Finally, the presentation concluded with a call for universal utilization of the RCA prenuptial agreement, which has proven to be an exceptionally effective tool in preventing tragedies in our community.
