Last Sunday, February 23, members of TABC’s Math League team journeyed to Yale University to compete in the annual Yale MMATHS (Math Majors of America Tournament for High Schools) competition. The students participated in both individual and team events, showcasing their mathematical skills on a prestigious stage. In the final event of the day, the MMATHS GUTS competition, students engaged in a fast-paced challenge, solving a series of nine sets of three questions each under time constraints. TABC performed exceptionally well, maintaining a position at or near the top of the leaderboard for the majority of the hour. With under two minutes left, TABC’s two teams were still ranked first and second. Though a few other teams surged ahead in the final moments, TABC’s teams still achieved remarkable results, with one team finishing in third place and the other in fifth. Notably, TABC was the only school with multiple teams ranked within the top five. Before leaving, the TABC students took the time to meet with a few TABC alumni currently studying at Yale University: Yoni Fine ‘18, who is currently in Yale Law School, and Efraim Helfgot ‘20 and Noam Barenholtz ‘21, who are currently undergraduates.
TABC has consistently ranked among the top-scoring institutions in New Jersey in the NJ Math League competition and is the highest-ranked local yeshiva in the state in that same competition. Dozens of students participate in TABC’s Math Club WhatsApp chat, where math problems with out-of-the-box and creative solutions are regularly posted and discussed. Looking ahead, another group of TABC students, including some who competed at MMATHS, is preparing for the upcoming Math Bowl hosted by SAR on March 10th.
