TABC Sweeps on Opening Night

On Monday night, November 15, the TABC gym was packed for the first time in nearly two years as both the JV and varsity basketball teams returned to their home court. To mark the occasion, students were treated to Chickies and a special edition TABC Athletics T-shirt before the first tip-off. By the time the JV team took the court, the gym was on fire. The JV players, looking to recover from a tough loss to SAR the previous week, did not disappoint. With an all-around team performance, the Storm defeated the MTA Lions in a commanding 30+ point victory.

On came the varsity, fresh off their Glouberman Tournament win in Los Angeles just over a week earlier. Before the game, a ceremony honoring the team’s back-to-back Glouberman wins and last year’s MYHSAL championship (COVID-edition) was held, as the championship banners were raised to thunderous cheers and applause. The champs then took the court against the Hawks and were able to get on a couple of runs, paced by the outside shooting of star senior Shmuel Yablok. HAFTR got on a few runs themselves to cut the deficit but were unable to chip away at TABC’s lead, thanks to offensive and defensive work by junior Netanel Benloulou. Yablok and Benloulou combined for almost 50 points and the Storm won by a final score of 69-52 as fans, including staff and rebbeim, sang and chanted, rocking the gym until even after the final buzzer sounded.
