Since the events of October 7, 2023, TABC has been at the forefront of yeshiva high schools in taking a stance against the growing antisemitism on college campuses. As part of this ongoing conversation, the entire TABC student body headed to Cedar Lane Cinemas last week for a viewing of the documentary October 8. Prior to departing TABC, Associate Principal and Psychologist Rabbi Steven Finkelstein addressed each of the grades and gave them some things to think about while watching the film. He asked them to think about the definition of heroic and to consider who in the film would qualify as a hero. He also asked them if there is a difference between anti-Zionism and antisemitism i.e. can you be one without being the other? Finally, he reminded them to pay attention to what they were thinking and feeling throughout the screening. At the theater, the students attentively watched the dramatic portrayal of the post-October 7 uptick in antisemitism and the very well organized anti-Zionist movement. The silence in the theater spoke to the power of the experience. Back at school, Rabbi Finkelstein and Rabbi Chanan Strassman of the Guidance Department, joined each class throughout the afternoon to lead a discussion and listen to our students reflect on what spoke to them most from the film.
