A packed house watched the TABC Storm defeat the Kushner Cobras in OT last Wednesday night as TABC officially kicked off the 2019-2020 athletic season. In an exciting moment of the night, junior Aaron Teitelbaum was chosen for the half court shot contest and sunk the shot, winning $100 as the crowd went wild and his classmates stormed the court to celebrate. The rest of the night was filled with exciting basketball action, a T-shirt cannon at halftime and the always loud Storm fan section.
The Storm took their talents to Brooklyn the following night to take on the Magen David Warriors, a favorite to take the Yeshiva League this year. Thanks in large part to star point guard Yoni Mann, the Storm held a surprising four-point lead at halftime. Magen David then turned on the jets in the second half while TABC’s shooting went cold. The Storm found themselves in a big hole and it seemed like that was it. Then with under a minute remaining in the game, junior Zevi Samet hit two clutch 3-pointers and senior Yehuda Mirwis hit the game tying triple before time expired to force overtime. The Storm headed into OT for the second night in a row, but you would never know it. They kept their momentum up and junior Noam Kinderlehrer sank two big free throws to effectively ice the game and solidify this major upset in what will go down as the biggest game so far of this still young basketball season.
The w’s kept coming with a convincing 51-30 win over the MTA Lions on Saturday night. The Storm led from start to finish and was never in danger of losing the lead. Samet and senior Ari Kaminetzky paced the scoring with crucial shots from 3-point range throughout the night, and Mann’s speed was too much for the Lions’ defense, as he scored countless points in the paint off the dribble. Senior Yitzi Weis contributed a lot in the post with key offensive rebounds and put backs.
The squad notched another win a resounding 54-35 win over the Ramaz Rams on the Monday night. The Storm’s strong start was too much for Ramaz to handle, kicking off the first half with a 12-0 run, and the second half with a 7-0 run. Samet, Kaminetzky and Yonatan Kaye paced the balanced scoring spree, and Mann hauled in some key rebounds throughout the game.
