(TABC sports) It was a snowy Saturday night on January 6 as the TABC Storm hosted Frisch in the two teams’ second and final meeting of the season. TABC bested the Cougars only two weeks earlier in a see-saw affair in Paramus and all signs indicated it would be more of the same this time around in Teaneck. The game started a little sloppy on both ends until TABC’s Charlie Simmons got the scoring going with a trey. Shortly after, Simmons got a layup on a fast break, and at the end of one quarter, the Storm were up by four.
The second quarter saw a pretty even battle. Highlights included a big full-court outlet from Simmons to teammate Ayden Gurin, who passed the ball while in midair down low to Eitan Sulemanoff for the open deuce. As halftime approached with the two teams knotted at 17, Sulemanoff hit a big triple from the top of the corner to give TABC a three-point lead. The Storm could only muster two buckets in the third quarter while Frisch outscored them 10-4 to take a three-point lead and all the momentum was with the Cougars heading into the final frame.
Someone needed to give TABC a boost; that player was Yaakov Salamon ’24. Salamon hit back-to-back 3s, one to tie the game and another to take the lead. With under four minutes remaining in the game, Salamon tried his luck again from downtown and missed, but birthday boy Yonah Mandel was able to snag the offensive rebound, finding Sulemanoff and canning it from beyond the arc to put the team up six. Frisch cut the deficit to two and had a chance to win the game at the end or force overtime, but thanks to great defense from Eyal Kinderlehrer and co., TABC held on for a massive victory as fans erupted and stormed the court. Sulemanoff led all players with 12 points as the Storm completed their season sweep of the Cougars and earned their seventh straight win.
