The building at 1600 Queen Anne Road came alive on Wednesday, September 1, as TABC welcomed faculty, staff and 300 students, including 73 freshmen, for a new school year. While the freshmen had an orientation before school began to get to know their classmates, senior mentors, and their new surroundings, the rest of the students waited until Wednesday to reunite with their friends, rabbeim and teachers with fist bumps and high fives. Despite it being the first day, everyone quickly re-acclimated to the routine which, of course, included gathering at the restaurants on Queen Anne during their lunch periods. Later in the day, at the official Opening Ceremony, Mashgiach Ruchani Rabbi Michael Hoenig opened the program by encouraging everyone to embrace the opportunities of the coming year and not push off the chance to learn Torah, be supportive and welcoming of classmates and maximize academic opportunity. Then Student Council President Yis Kaminetzky ‘22 addressed the student body and encouraged them to come to him with their ideas and promised the implementation of a robust student council agenda. Finally, Rav Yitz, director of Student Activities & Athletics, gave a quick glimpse of what is to come in 2021-2022, starting with an amazing “Welcome Back” shabbaton for grades 10-12 and a special “Freshman Chill’’ outing for the Class of 2025. He encouraged everyone to participate in student life programming and extracurricular opportunities in order to maximize their TABC experience. The whole school was then treated to Rita’s Ices in the gym before returning to class for the remainder of the day. Here’s to a year full of exciting days just like this one!
