After two long months of practice, TABC’s Science Olympiad team dominated last Sunday’s Science Olympiad at Touro’s Lander College. Science Olympiad is an annual competition between 13 NY-area yeshiva high schools, consisting of 12 diverse events related to science and engineering. This year, topics for events included geology, biology, estimation of large values (such as the number of drops of water in the oceans) and tower-building, among others. Captained by Mark Gotesman ‘18 and Tani Greengart ‘18, coached by Esther Ruskin and Yochanon Bogart, and assisted by Rabbi Shaya First, TABC’s 15-man team won medals in 11 out of 12 events, taking first place for the second year in a row. SAR and Ramaz finished in second and third place, respectively.

TABC’s team was mostly a self-selecting group—only the most dedicated STEM students volunteered to expend the effort necessary to master their events. From the end of January until mid-March, team members stayed late in school multiple times per week, studying various areas of science and building engineering projects. The team’s hard work paid off, and they look forward to competing again next year!
