TABC Wins Soccer Championship to Cap Undefeated Season

After completing an undefeated regular season (8 wins, 7 by mercy), and mercy-ing SAR 13-0 in the semi-final game, TABC traveled to the Hawk’s nest (HAFTR) to play DRS in the championship game last week. Starting the game with an array of missed opportunities, TABC, with six minutes into the game, finally connected with a goal by Dylan Breen ’19 assisted by Refi Minsky ’18. DRS tied the score with three minutes, that closing out the first period with a 1-1 tie.

Fourteen seconds into the second period Dov Baron ’18 scored off an assist from Ezra Friedman ’18. Soon after, Roi Shoshan ’18 connected with a drive past the DRS goalie to put TABC up 3-1. DRS connected as well to end second period at 3-2.

Refi Minsky opened up the third period with an immediate steal off DRS’s kickoff, three seconds into the period when he made a half-court strike. DRS, again, tied the game a few minutes later, then delivered a second unanswered goal. The game remained tied at 4-4.

Two minutes into the fourth period, Dov Baron set up a sprinting Ezra Friedman, who rifled the ball past the DRS goalkeeper. Two minutes later DRS scored, tying the game at 5-5. With four minutes to play, Roi Shushan, after two unassisted consecutive shots on goal, lifted the ball from the corner over the DRS goalie’s head to push TABC up 6-5. A minute and a half later Yonatan Rimberg ’19 laid a beautiful pass to an accelerating Refi Minsky, who pushed the ball past the DRS goalkeeper. DRS scored with a minute and a half left, to close the gap 7-6. With 40 seconds left to play, Refi Minsky, at the corner, sent a behind-the-back back-heel pass to Roi Shoshan, who fired the ball into the goal to complete both a hat-trick and seal the championship victory for TABC at 8-6.

Completing an impressive and dominating undefeated season (87 regulation goals scored, 24 regulation goals allowed), TABC showed the heart of true champions; they never quit, stayed positive and always exhibited the necessary hard-work and great sportsmanship.

The victory belonged to the entire team, made possible by six scorers; excellent controlled play by all; dominating offensive pressure by Refi Minsky, Azriel Muller ’19, Dov Baron, Roi Shushan and Yonadav Rimberg; crushing defense by Roi Shushan, Ezra Friedman, Yonadav Rimberg and Dylan Breen; acrobatic goal-tending by Avraham Kahn; and great team support throughout.
