Tamim NYC enjoyed a joyous family morning on Rosh Chodesh Adar 1 when parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, aunties and younger siblings joined the Tamim NYC students for the school’s traditional Friday challah making. Everyone was busy with kneading, stretching, rolling and plaiting dough, and soon the school was filled with the delicious aroma of challah baking in the oven to take home for Shabbat. With hands cleaned and tables wiped, the children then had an opportunity to share their learning with their special family visitors.
The Tamim network of schools offers a Montessori-like learning environment for their students. Children are confident and competent with selecting independent work activities that further embed their class learning, and they were very excited to involve their family members and show them their achievements. “It was a perfect, perfect event and as a parent, I loved every second of it,” reported Chana Kugel, “Having the additional opportunity to engage with my child while she was immersed in her work activities, gave me a real feeling of her learning and independence.”
