The Kindergarten learners at Tamim Academy NYC recently had good reason to celebrate. After their first semester of learning to read and write English using the UK-designed Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc (RWI) Phonics method, the class held a party to mark their achievement of learning all of the first set of sounds in the program. That means that the students can now read and write numerous words accurately, confidently and independently, and are also reading short books. The Read Write Inc. Phonics method offers a structured, fun and rigorous approach to teaching phonics to young children allowing them to quickly master and enjoy English reading.
Tamim Academy NYC is part of the national network of Tamim schools, of which there are currently 12 across North America, including in Canada. Tamim Academy schools use research-based curricula, providing a comprehensive professional development program for teachers across the Tamim national network. This includes teachers receiving regular Zoom coaching sessions from the British-based Read Write Inc. training team in order to ensure that teaching and learning standards remain at a consistently high level. “I truly love the way my child is learning the meaning behind sounds and how to fundamentally put them together,” Tamim NYC parent Jacqueline Guttman Englander tells us. “He reads so thoughtfully and beautifully. And now he is trying to read at every opportunity—a book, a sign on the street—he is just so eager to read.”
