This past week, The Shefa School had the privilege of hosting Tamir Goodman, a renowned professional Jewish basketball player, known for his achievements on the court and his experience with dyslexia—something that resonates deeply with Shefa students.
Upon arrival, Tamir toured Shefa’s building and observed reading classes, gaining insight into the heart of Shefa’s mission. He then spoke to fifth graders, sharing his inspiring life story, how his dyslexia presented him with both challenges and great gifts, and how his unwavering Jewish beliefs and values have guided him throughout his journey. Tamir also discussed his new book, “Live Your Dream,” which chronicles his life and underscores the importance of perseverance and humility. Students were captivated by his enthusiasm and honesty, eagerly asking thoughtful questions about his career and experiences.
Following the talk, Tamir, joined by his friend Michael Sweetney—a former NBA player for the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls—hosted an engaging basketball clinic for Shefa’s boy and girl basketball teams. The students had a blast learning new skills and strategies directly from two accomplished athletes.
Shefa students were inspired by Tamir and Michael’s message that challenges, including learning differences, can be stepping stones to greatness!
