To culminate the unit on human genetics, Bracha Strobel, a registered nurse and a TCA mom, visited the sixth grade biology class to speak to the students about genetic disorders, their symptoms, causes and treatments. Strobel shared her knowledge, experience and perspective working at the Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center, a long term medical facility caring for children with disorders such as sickle cell anemia, cystic fibrosis, Down Syndrome and hemophilia. Strobel inspired everyone with not just her interesting presentation, but also her passion for lifting up her patients’ spirits and making them smile every day. Students were able to use the knowledge they gained in class to hear how these disorders affect children and adults of all ages.
