The students in Mrs. Elbaum’s third grade have been reading “Molly’s Pilgrim” by Barbara Cohen. There has been so much discussion about what it means to immigrate to a new country, start a new school and learn a new language. Molly definitely had challenges to face and the students have been honing their critical reading and thinking skills by analyzing characters and events. They are making text-to-self connections as they find similarities and differences between themselves and Molly. A clothespin pilgrim project followed as third grade completed the same assignment Molly did in the story! The children thoroughly enjoyed this novel and completed it just in time for Thanksgiving!
