Teaneck/Bergenfield Costume Gemach Gears Up for Purim

The Teaneck/Bergenfield costume gemach began in 2015 in memory of Farvish Hirsch Ben Shmuel Leib. After noticing Facebook posts and Teaneck shul emails asking to either borrow or lend a specific costume for Purim, Rivki Rosenthal and Sarah Savetsky decided to start the costume gemach. This allows families “new to you” costumes each year without spending more money.

The gemach began by collecting 50 gently used costumes, cleaning and organizing them, and then lending them out to the community. The gemach has grown to offer over 2,000 children’s and adult costumes. Monies donated are used to purchase new costumes for the following year or toward other community gemachs. This year Rosenthal Savetsky are happy to announce that they have partnered with Yad Leah and will also be donating costumes to Israel.

A $10 refundable deposit and $5 donation are requested but not required. The gemach will be open at Keter Torah, 600 Roemer Ave. on Sunday, March 10 and Tuesday, March 12 from 6-7:30 p.m.. The gemach is in memory of Farvish Hirsch Ben Shmuel Leib.

Feel free to donate new and good costumes by dropping them off on the porch at 18 Sunrise Terr., Bergenfield. There will be a sorting event on Sunday, March 3 from 7-8 p.m. RSVP at www.yadleah.org/bccostume.
