Teaneck—Camp Kookooskoos located at Thomas Jefferson Middle School is known for working with the busy schedules of working parents by providing a six-week full-day summer camp with many fun activities for children in grades K through 8. From June 29 to August 7, children can participate in activities such as arts and crafts, dance, drama, sports, music, swimming, and science.
Camp Kookooskoos plans to revamp its kosher lunch menu this summer. “No need to pack a lunch for your child because we supply lunch, snack, drinks, and ice cream,” says Karen Sarraga, Assistant Director of Camp Kookooskoos. The new kosher meal plan will feature food from great Teaneck restaurants such as Chopstix and EJs. The kosher plan costs an additional $175 for the entire summer.
Gary Andersen, Director of Camp Kookooskoos says, “We pick up right from your car door making it easy and safe for parents and campers both before and after camp to drop off and pick up their children.” Camp Kookooskoos first opened its doors over 20 years ago, striving to accommodate parents and children. The camp has truly grown over the years and has come to symbolize the meaning of community.
Camp hours are from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Extended hours are available to accommodate parents’ busy schedules for an extra fee. Early morning drop-off begins at 7:30 a.m. and evening pick-up ends at 6:15.
Children in grades K-4 are grouped by gender and age. They are assigned to their own “bunk” with two counselors. There are also specialty counselors they interact with on a daily basis. The K–4 campers go on one trip per session. Past summers’ trips have included the Turtle Back Zoo, Bowcraft Amusement Park, the movies, and bowling. Trips are included in the $1,675.00 registration fee.
Explorer campers are children in grades 5–8. These campers go on trips three days per week. This summer’s trips will include Six Flags Great Adventure Amusement Park, Mountain Creek Water Park, Castle Fun Center, and many more. All trips are included in the $2,300.00 registration fee.
Camp Kookooskoos registration is open to all Teaneck residents, as well as non-residents (at an additional fee). All campers can register for all six weeks or a two-week session of their choice. Camp Kookooskoos is run by the Teaneck Community Education Center, which operates under the Teaneck Board of Education, located at 1 Merrison St., Teaneck, NJ.
