Several dozen fans, family members and kosher foodies showed up for a socially distanced live showing of Food Network’s “Chopped!” featuring Shalom Yehudiel, owner and executive chef of The Humble Toast on Teaneck’s Queen Anne Road.
Sighted in the crowd and shepping nachat for Yehudiel’s explanation of his adherence to kosher laws and his wish to show the world that kosher food tastes great was Great Kosher Restaurants’ and kosher-foodie-in-chief Elan Kornblum. Also joining the group was Teaneck Mayor Jim Dunleavy and Deputy Mayor Elie Y. Katz.
The “Chopped” episode featured the Chopped! challenge of incorporating offbeat mystery ingredients into an appetizer, entree and dessert round; this particular installment asked chefs to serve a “soup and sammy” in each round as well. While Yehudiel was chopped after the dessert round, his creative dishes, all cooked under immense time pressure, wowed the judges.
