Teaneck Council Invites Developers to ‘Discover Teaneck’

On Tuesday, June 28, the Teaneck Township Council, in collaboration with the Teaneck Chamber of Commerce, will be hosting the first open house in a series of events known as “Discover Teaneck.” The purpose of this introductory event is to invite property owners, developers, real estate professionals and other interested parties to learn about potential development and business opportunities within the Teaneck area.

The two sections in Teaneck that will be explored at this event are the Alfred Avenue area and the Queen Anne Road/Degraw Avenue business district. These areas offer many potential development opportunities. The goal of the presentation is to promote investment in Teaneck and enable participants to ask questions as well as share perspectives on how to upgrade and develop underutilized properties in these two locations.

The Alfred Avenue area, once a single-story zone, has undergone a zoning amendment, which will now allow commercial and multi-family residential development. Likewise, the Queen Anne Avenue district has long gone unattended. Therefore, the Council intends, through this event, to facilitate and guide prospective builders in the pursuit of enhancing the areas mentioned. Acting Mayor Elie Katz wants to send a clear message to developers and property owners that Teaneck is open for business. “Rather than being a reactive community, we are being proactive,” Katz told The Jewish Link. Additionally, Katz noted he has always advocated easing the tax burden for Teaneck residents. He believes that “in order to minimize the encumbrance on taxpayers, we need to shift to a commercial base for maximum revenue.”

In an effort to promote investment, “Discover Teaneck” will showcase opportunities to promote appropriate development either on a commercial level or a residential level, thereby increasing the value of the properties therein. “We need to ensure that each district is being utilized to extend benefit to the tax base,” explained William Broughton, Teaneck Township Manager. “Teaneck is 15 minutes from the greatest city in the world. This is a wonderful place to live, work, play and raise a family,” Broughton said.

The event is scheduled to take place from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Teaneck Township Hall in the Council Chambers located at 818 Teaneck Road. Additional events are in the planning stages to discuss other development areas within the Teaneck Township.
