Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Alex Pomerantz

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 11-year-old Alex Pomerantz as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The fifth grader at the Moriah School just completed a championship run for the New Jersey Avalanche. Pomerantz, a first year player made his impact felt, combining with line-mate captain Asher Rudman to make one of the most potent lines in the league. Most notable were Pomerantz’s three goals in the championship game, that just happened to be on his 11th birthday. Zvi Rudman (Asher’s dad) told the JLNJ, “Alex is an integral part of our team. His knack for putting the puck in the net is uncanny; He always seems to be in the right place at the right time. When Alex is on the ice, we can all expect something special to happen.”

Alex, congratulations on the championship. Who are your role models and why?

My parents because they taught me how to work hard and be a team player.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning the Score-O competition at the Ice House ice hockey camp. I am the only person to have ever done it.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Taylor Hall is my favorite hockey player since he plays for the Devils and he won the MVP last year. He is a great scorer and helps make his teammates better.

What is your pregame routine?

I stretch and listen to music to get me pumped up to score goals.

What is your earliest sports memory?

My first time skating on the ice at Mackay.

What is your weirdest sports memory?

Watching my teammate miss the bench while trying to sit down on it after a shift on the ice.

What is your favorite sports memory?

When my North Jersey Avalanche team won the championship at a tournament on my birthday and I had a hat trick.

What is your favorite thing to do when you are not playing sports?

I like to hang with my friends and, of course, play Fortnite.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

Having the opportunity to let everyone know what great teammates I have both on and off the ice.

The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift at the Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for an upcoming Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
