Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week: Gabbie Landau

The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 17-year-old Gabbie Landau as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Bruriah High School for Girls senior is a star on and off of the court. Bruriah Athletic Director Susan Rifkin told the JLNJ, “ Despite her medical issue that benched her in her sophomore year, she returned the following year without missing a beat and is captain in her senior year, and continues to impress me with her ability to balance academics and athletics.”

Gabbie, congrats on a great season. If you had to pick one person, who is your role model, and why?

My role model is my mom. My mom has always been there for me when life got a little bit more than crazy.

What is your favorite sport?

My favorite sport is volleyball.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

My greatest sports accomplishment is becoming volleyball captain in 10th grade and then again in 12th grade.

Who is your favorite athlete?

My favorite athlete is Kerri Walsh Jennings because she is not only a super dedicated volleyball player, she is also a mother of three kids.

What is your pre-game routine, if you have one?

My pre-game routine usually consists of warming up in a circle with my teammates. We also read from a shmirat ha’lashon book or get a Dvar Torah from my teammate’s father.

What is your earliest sport memory?

My earliest sports memory is throwing around a baseball with my siblings in my backyard.

What is your weirdest sports memory?

My weirdest sports memory is at one of my games right before I was about to serve, my cheek got stuck to my braces. Luckily, it got unstuck right before I hit the ball over the net.

What is your favorite sports memory?

My favorite sports memory is seeing my teammates run onto the court and hug me when my serve won one of our games.

What do you like to do when not playing sports?

My favorite thing to do when I am not playing sports is read, write or draw.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

The best thing about being a Sportstar is my team. My teammates are my second family and they have been through a lot with me. I love them and I am so lucky to be able to have them as friends on and off of the court.

The Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week will receive a $15 gift certificate to Teaneck Doghouse. Please send nominees for an upcoming Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse Sportstar of the Week to [email protected].
