The Jewish Link of New Jersey and Teaneck Doghouse would like to recognize 11 year old Gavi Greenspan as this week’s Sportstar of the Week. The Yeshivat He’atid, fifth grader is having a terrific season for his TBO team. In a recent game he pitched a complete game shutout and collected multiple hits as his team cruised to a 11-0 victory. A spectator told the JLNJ “He is a superstar on the mound.” Greenspan led his MGBL team to the championship game as a fourth grader and is a star on his AIFL team. As a fifth grader, Greenspan was a member of the inaugural He’atid Hurricanes, more impressive when you factor in that this was a sixth grade team.

Gavi, that is quite a long list of athletic accomplishments for an 11 year old. If you had to select one person, who would you say is your role model and why?

My aunt Daniela, who was inducted into the Yeshiva University hall of fame for holding the record for most points scored by a female basketball player at Stern. She’s amazing, and I hope to be like her one day.

What is your favorite sport?

It is hard to choose between basketball, baseball and football—I love them all.

What is your greatest sports accomplishment?

Winning the AIFL flag football championship two years ago and making it to the MGBL championship last year.

Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Lebron James. He is incredible in every way possible.

What is your pregame routine?

I don’t really have one, I just try to eat something before I play.

What is your earliest sport memory?

Playing in the TBO instructional league.

What is your favorite sports memory?

Hitting the ball over the fence in aTBO travel league game last year.

What is the best thing about being a Sportstar?

People actually know your name.
